Job Description
DisinfectWell is currently looking for a remote and part time Microbiologist to join our team. Our interview process may be conducted virtually and some roles will be asked to temporarily work from home. Over the coming weeks and months, we will be implementing a phased approach to bringing employees back to site to ensure the health and safety of our teams.
Essential Functions
The duties of the Microbiologist include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinates and participates in epidemiologic assessment and reporting of MicroID Environmental Testing and ATP Rapid On-site Testing surveillance programs. Surveillance programs are part of VerifiedSAFE™ Reporting.
- Recommending disinfection cadence, areas and extent of investigation of communicable disease within specific healthcare environments
- Correlated diseases associated with environmental factors outlined on Certificate Of Analysis (COA) Reviews and monitors Luminometer testing reports for clients, health statistics, demographic information and the results of laboratory tests to identify possible disease trends, locations and sources.
- Advises staff and others regarding potential or active epidemic findings and trends. As assigned, serves as a resource and technical consultant on epidemiology to physicians, nurses, public health officials and the public.
- Assists in the design of, and helps oversee implementation and operation of data systems for the monitoring of disease status and trends.
- On assigned projects, trains, and coordinates staff in the investigation of epidemics and outbreaks of communicable disease, patterns of other disease processes and health-related conditions, and the analysis of information from multiple sources.
Skills And Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Microbiology or Public Health
- 5-7 years of Microbiologist experience
- Proficiency with Google Suite and communication products
- Proficiency with using PubMed/MEDLINE and/or other peer reviewed journal search tools
Job Qualifications
Knowledge of environmental, agent and host factors associated with the occurrence of diseases, modes of disease transmission and epidemic patterns of disease in the community. Microbiologist features of infections and infestations and zoonoses significant to public health. Sophisticated design methodology and statistical methods used in epidemiological studies, including case control and cohort studies and clinical trials. Availability, uses and limitations of demographic data. Application of manual and automated systems for storage, retrieval and analysis. Current microbiology and related literature. Federal, State and Local Laws and regulations pertaining to public health practice and administration.
A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in microbiology, biostatistics, or a closely related field and one year or more of experience in designing, conducting and interpreting epidemiologic or demographic data. OR A bachelor’s degree in public health related field plus three years of experience in designing, conducting and interpreting microbial or demographic data.
Experience in designing, conducting, evaluating and interpreting Microbiology studies or investigations. Knowledge in communicable disease surveillance and control, including interpretation and evaluation of laboratory test results and statistical data.
A microbiologist is responsible for investigating the growth, structure development, and other characteristics of microscopic organisms such as bacteria, algae, and fungi. They undertake laboratory analysis and the monitoring of microbial cultures, samples and new drugs using specialist computer software and a range of identification methods and clinical trials. Additionally, microbiologists also develop new pharmaceutical products, vaccines, medicines and compounds such as antiseptics. Microbiologists are employed by a variety of institutions including research institutions, hospitals, and government agencies.
A bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology or related science is required for microbiologists as well as 3 years of successful analytical laboratory experience. Successful microbiologists possess outstanding analytical skills and with high proficiency in mathematics.
